About Us

Our Mission
Absentminded is a literary journal devoted to escaping into the spaces in between. We focus on the moments where the mind slips away from the present, and dives into dreams, memories, fantasies, and versions of realities that exist in what is or what could be. We believe that escaping does not always mean leaving and instead it sometimes means remembering or imagining, or simply just becoming absent. We are looking to build a community of absentminded people with minds that want to create. Our journal hopes to be a place people can journey to in their need to escape, and a place where people can communicate this peculiar desire. We want to get lost on purpose.
Our Call for Submission

Our magazine seeks out fiction, nonfiction, poetry, and artwork that explores escapism and the middle states between reality. We want work that does not exist within the known present: about memories, fantasies, nostalgia, dissociations, distractions, etc. Our magazine is drawn to the spaces in between reality and imagination, presence and absence, and waking and dreaming. We desire pieces that answer where does one go when they need to escape and what does it mean to exist in between. We publish work with the max word count of 6,000 words. Please reach out to absentmindedmagazine@gmail.com with work that reflects our desire to escape halfway.
Deadline: November 10th
